I quite like the idea to this, however i would have probably wanted the focus a few centimeters downwards where the water is, as the focus seems to be where the dark of the pipe is.
The background is nicely out of focus however whatever to the left of the pipe distracts you from the water from the pipe.
The light tone's are nice, but i would prefer to see a bit more contrast between light and dark.

Overall i think its a good first shot, and i do always love anything with water!

I agree with what he said up there, and I'll throw in my own: it's usually good to have the subject a little (sometimes way) off center, I can't really explain why too well, it just works better. you probably want to keep the same proportions as far as length and width go, so cropping the top and the bottom (not too much of the subject) as well as a side would be good. Just as long as the subject isn't right in the middle of the frame, you should be fine.

take two pieces of paper and hold them over the picture on the screen, move them around to see what it would look like cropped, then crop it to there.

You could take from the light side of the frame and have a darker image, or the dark and have a lighter, whichever looks better. the eye knows best, just play around with it until it clicks

Reading this guys articles [link] is definitely worth it, he's got some good ideas in there, and can explain everything way better than I can.

ok well there is a lot about this photo that isn't exactly pleasing. the first thing is that the focus of the photo is almost too in your face i would in the case of this photo take into consideration the rule of thirds (not for every photo but this one i believe would benifit) i would also maybe bring the background into a little more focus although a great example of dof i think that the background in this if not in focus is a bit distracting, a great first attempt but i think that you need to take a look at some more photos get more critiques and maybe read a book or two on photography :) thanks for sharing

the rule of thirds.....lots of ppl (actually everyone who commented) suggested tht so now i know wat it is.......... i will read a book or two on photography and some tutorials to be able to take better picture...im still struggling a bit with the technicalities of photography so if i can understand/get over that part i might improve some (i hope)

Thank u fer ur time and help :)

This has already been said, but having your photograph's subject off center really is much more visually interesting. Also, I agree that the focus should be on the water rather than on the pipe. It says in the description that you changed the brightness in ps, if you made it brighter, that's not a change I would've recommended, you lost a lot of detail having it this bright, and with a subject that seems to have this little detail in the first place, that's probably not the best idea.

ill update the photo in a while take the focus off the pipe and in the water and put the water not in the centre :D and i wont tweak the brightness as much though the lack of detail is due my current lack of skill i think...
